A urethroplasty is a surgical procedure on the urethra, which is part of the urinary system. The urethra is the tube that carries urine from the bladder out of the body. In men, the urethra also transports sperm out of the body. Urethroplasty is performed to repair or replace the urethra when scar tissue forms inside it. The surgeon may bandage the ends of the urethra after removing the scar tissue, or borrow tissue from elsewhere in the body to reconstruct the blocked portion of the urethra.
