A method called holmium laser lithotripsy employs lasers to remove stones from the bladder, kidneys, ureters, or urethra. Lasers are used in the procedure known as holmium laser lithotripsy to remove stones from the urinary tract. This may include stones in the kidneys, ureters (tubes that convey urine from the kidneys to the bladder), urethra, bladder, or any combination of these (the tube through which urine leaves the body from the bladder). To break up the stones, a flexible laser fibre is inserted through a scope (camera) put in the urinary tract via the urethra. Then, using a tiny basket or other tools, the stone bits are taken out. There are no incisions made throughout the process (cuts). It serves as an alternative to extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy. In the method, the stones are broken up using external sound waves. No matter the size, position, or hardness of the stone, holmium laser lithotripsy has been demonstrated to be effective. The efficiency of shockwave lithotripsy is constrained by these considerations.
